Serge Payer was born on May 9th, 1979 in Rockland, Ontario, Canada (35 km east of Ottawa). He studied Economics and Macroeconomics at Wilfried Laurier University in Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario where he played five consecutive years in the Ontario Hockey League for the Kitchener Rangers from 1995-2000. In 1997 he signed with the Florida Panthers.
In January 1999, Serge was sidelined with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), an illness that kept him out of hockey for a year. After a long hard battle recovering from GBS, he founded the Serge Payer Foundation which helps raise awareness and funds for GBS through Annual Charitable functions.
In 2000, after his recovery, Serge achieved his professional goal to play in the National Hockey League with the Florida Panthers and the Ottawa Senators. After an 8 year career of Pro hockey in North America (2000-08), he chose to prolong his career and play 3 years of Elite Pro Hockey in Europe (2008-11) where he built great relationships. Serge Founded Unlimited Sports Management LLC in North America and is now enjoying life after hockey. Now, as an agent and an advisor for Elite hockey talent he quotes. ”The game has given me so much, and this is a great way to give back to the game. Working, advising young players, players, and parents, assisting in their development and in their decision making is very rewarding.
